๐ŸŽฎ Google Play Apps Accelerator โ€” Post-Meeting Summary

Monday, March 30, 2026  ยท  Jason Schklar, Anchor Mentor  ยท  Week 3 of 12

โœ… Both sessions complete โ€” March 30

Focus Forge (9:00 AM) and Skarvo (10:00 AM) weekly syncs are done. This brief captures what happened and what's next.

Overdue: Deliver the UX/UI presentation postponed from last week to both teams.
Push Alan harder on dark-pattern paywall โ€” today's live demo confirmed the early paywall is hurting first impressions. Moving it post-onboarding is the #1 UX fix.
Help Skarvo book bench mentors โ€” Suhail agreed to shortlist 3-4 and email you + Ming. Follow up if nothing arrives by Wednesday.
Review Skarvo's Android modular framework link once Suhail sends it โ€” potential game-changer for their architecture.
Follow up with Ming on OKR submission/approval โ€” still unclear, Ming will ask again.

Live app walkthrough revealed dark-pattern onboarding paywall as the biggest UX issue โ€” users hit a subscription wall before experiencing any value. No funnel metrics exist yet (~7K organic users/month, zero instrumentation). RevenueCat shows ~$17K MRR. AI feature demo (LangChain + GPT-4) impressed โ€” letting users try it before the paywall could significantly boost conversion. Notes doc โ†’

๐Ÿชถ Skarvo Mentee

New Android release demo showed on-device Gemma models, collaborative "LEGO block" features (shopping lists, expense splitting, travel guides, greeting cards), and the vision for agentic AI reducing UI friction via natural language. Strategy crystallized: "come for the tool, stay for the connection" โ€” single-player value first, then organic invites. Excited about Android's modular framework for cross-app invocation. Attendees: Jason, Alan, Ming (Huming)

Key Insight
Paywall is a dark pattern. The live walkthrough revealed that users hit a hard-to-dismiss subscription prompt before experiencing any app value. Ming agreed โ€” first impression was discomfort. This is likely suppressing conversion and retention. Recommendation: move paywall to after the onboarding tutorial.
Key Insight
Zero funnel instrumentation. Alan has no data on how many users see the paywall, bounce rate, or conversion path. With ~7K organic new users/month, instrumenting the funnel is the most urgent technical task.
Key Insight
AI feature could be the conversion hook. Alan demoed a LangChain/GPT-4 feature that generates full task lists from free-text input. Both you and Ming agreed: letting users try this before the paywall could significantly improve conversion.
Discussed
Steven Kan's feedback reframed Alan's approach. Focus on goals first, use numbers as evidence of progress, consider building a revenue model working backwards from targets. Jason flagged concern that over-focus on revenue may hurt UX and retention.
Discussed
A/B testing the paywall โ€” Jason cautioned it requires large sample sizes; Steven suggested a few weeks would suffice at current volumes. Needs more thought.
Discussed
Cold-start latency on AI proxy. Keeping minimum instances at 1 eliminates cold starts but costs 24/7. Alan to check LangSmith usage metrics first before committing spend.
Resolved
OKR submission process clarified. As long as the document is in the folder, no additional submission step is required.
Alan Book bench mentors ASAP โ€” prioritize product management mentors first New
Alan Implement funnel and retention metric tracking in the app New
Alan Design a new onboarding experience (move paywall post-tutorial) and prepare mockups for Jason + Ming New
Alan Review LangSmith AI usage metrics to evaluate whether keeping min instances at 1 is worth the cost New
Ming Follow up on OKR submission/approval process (still no response from program team) New
Jason Deliver the UX/UI presentation postponed from last week Overdue

๐Ÿ“Š Instrument the Funnel

This is now the #1 technical priority. Alan needs to track: paywall impressions, bounce rate, trial starts, and conversion. Without this data, every other decision is guesswork.

๐ŸŽจ Onboarding Redesign Mockups

Move paywall to after the tutorial. Let users experience the AI task-generation feature before asking for money. Alan should have mockups ready to share by next session.

๐Ÿค Bench Mentor Velocity

Alan needs to book 2-3 more sessions this week via Advocu โ€” especially a product management mentor to help with the conversion funnel strategy.

๐Ÿค– AI Cold Start Decision

Review LangSmith metrics and decide whether to keep min instances at 1. Quick win if usage justifies the cost.

Users ~4,000 Team 5โ†’7 people Platform Native Kotlin + SwiftUI

Attendees: Jason, Suhail, Ammar, Assan, Ming (Huming)

Demo: New Android Release
On-device Gemma models live in the app. Three model tiers for different device capabilities. Users can download and chat locally. Fallback to Gemini for web search when local model isn't sufficient. All native (Kotlin/Jetpack + SwiftUI).
Demo: LEGO Block Features
24 collaborative mini-apps inside groups. Shopping lists with metadata pulled from URLs, expense splitting with multiple formulas, travel guides with Google Maps integration, greeting cards, and more. Each "block" works across all group types โ€” from roommates to family to activity partners.
Key Strategy
"Come for the tool, stay for the connection." Next 4-5 months focused on single-player value โ€” users need to love the app solo before they'll naturally invite others. This solves the cold-start/multiplayer chicken-and-egg problem.
Key Insight
Agentic AI is the glue. Jason now clearly sees the vision: natural language commands (voice or text) trigger the LEGO block features automatically โ€” "I'm planning a trip to these cities" creates the guide, populates places, invites friends. Dramatically reduces friction vs. navigating individual UIs.
Key Insight
Reduce friction outside the app too. Jason suggested making it so a user could text/voice-memo a note to themselves and have it land in Skarvo automatically โ€” reduce the barrier of even opening the app. Suhail agreed this is valuable.
Exciting Tech
Android modular framework. Skarvo is intrigued by Android's emerging modular architecture where app functions can be invoked from anywhere. They need privileged access/permissions to explore it further. Suhail will send a link for review.
Context
Apple limitations drove the founding thesis. Team came from Apple. Sharing in Apple's first-party apps works for 5 people (spouse + kids) but breaks for dynamic groups (roommates, tennis partners, friend groups). Apple deprioritized this โ€” Skarvo is filling the gap.
Noted
Ian meeting Thursday. Suhail to prepare a 5-minute demo of the app. Also preparing a competitive analysis slide.
Suhail Shortlist 3-4 bench mentors and email Jason + Ming with the list New
Suhail Prepare a 5-minute app demo for the meeting with Ian on Thursday New
Suhail Prepare a competitive analysis slide positioning Skarvo against top competitors New
Suhail Send Jason and Ming a link to the Android modular framework they discussed New
Suhail Prepare questions for the working session later this evening New

๐Ÿค Bench Mentors Booked

Suhail committed to shortlisting 3-4 mentors. By next week, at least 1-2 sessions should be scheduled. Prioritize product and on-device AI expertise.

๐ŸŽฏ Ian Meeting Debrief

Thursday's meeting with Ian is a key milestone. Come prepared with the 5-min demo and competitive positioning slide. Debrief outcomes next Monday.

๐Ÿ”ฌ Single-Player Value Definition

The "come for the tool" strategy needs concrete execution. What specific single-player features ship in the next sprint? Push for a clear list of what gets built in the next 2 weeks.

๐Ÿ“ฑ Android Modular Framework Exploration

Once Suhail sends the link, review together. If privileged access is needed, this is something to escalate through Ming's Google contacts.
